Larijani Stresses Continued Enrichment

A02582027.jpgTEHRAN (Fars news Agency)- Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Secretary Ali Larijani stressed here on Wednesday that his country would not suspend its uranium enrichment activities.

Speaking to reporters during a joint press conference with Iraqi vice president Adil Abd Al-Mahdi here in Tehran on Wednesday, Larijani described nuclear case as a national issue for Iran, and said that the Islamic Republic would never stop enrichment activities.

Regarding a recent plan introduced by IAEA Director General Mohammed ElBaradei on Iran’s nuclear activities, the Iranian top nuclear negotiator said, “During our phone conversation on Monday Mr. ElBaradei stressed that the nuclear issue must be resolved through negotiations and this is what we exactly believe in.”

Asked to comment on recent statements made by Russia’s National Security Council Secretary Igor Ivanov that he had introduced to Tehran a new plan to settle the nuclear issue, Larijani said that the plan is not a new package, and continued, “Russians and Mr. Ivanov himself stated that they are keen to witness the settlement of the issue through talks.”
