FACTBOX: Security developments in Iraq

(Reuters) – Following are security developments in Iraq at 1045 GMT on Sunday.

FALLUJA – A bomb wounded Zeki al-Mohammedi, a member of the Anbar provincial council and head of the Falluja branch of the Iraqi Islamic Party, and killed two of his bodyguards in Falluja, 50 km (30 miles) west of Baghdad, police said. The blast in Mohammedi’s garage also wounded his son.

SULAIMAN PEK – A roadside bomb killed two Iraqi soldiers when it exploded near their patrol in the town of Sulaiman Pek, 160 km (100 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD – U.S. forces captured two “Special Groups” leaders, a term the military uses for militias it accuses Iran of backing, during operations in Baghdad, east of the Tigris, the U.S. military said.

BAGHDAD – U.S. forces detained five suspected insurgents during military operations targeting al Qaeda in Baghdad and Mosul, the U.S. military said.

BASRA – A roadside bomb targeting an Iraqi army patrol wounded one civilian in central Basra, 420 km (260 miles) southeast of Baghdad, police said.

FALLUJA – A roadside bomb exploded near a U.S.-backed neighborhood patrol station, wounding one member of the patrol, in Falluja, police said.

QANDIL MOUNTAINS – Turkish war planes bombed targets in northern Iraq’s Qandil mountains, PKK Kurdish separatist guerrillas, Turkey’s military and local Iraqi officials said. There were no reports of casualties.
