Barzani, who visited the neighboring country in response to an official invitation from the Iranian government, would meet high-level officials, including Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki.

Border security and regional developments are expected to be among the issues topping the agenda in the contacts between the Iraqi Kurdish leader and the Iranian officials.

The officials are also expected to discuss PEJAK, the terror organization PKK’s breakaway faction in Iran.

Iran and Turkey have long been fighting against the terrorist movements operated by both the PEJAK and PKK, which is listed as a terrorist group by much of the international community including the US and the EU.
