EU’s Rehn warns BiH over accession prospects

EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn warned that Bosnia and Herzegovina’s (BiH) has to speed up EU-related reforms in order not to hurt its EU accession prospects in a meeting with Foreign Minister Sven Alkalaj in Brussels on Friday (May 15th) the country.

Rehn said BiH needs to consolidate its central powers and complete the transition of the Office of the High Representative to an EU Special Representative.”Such a transition is indeed essential for granting BiH an EU candidate status,” Rehn told reporters after the meeting.

He added the EU is concerned about the country’s political stability which is a key prerequisite for meeting EU conditions for visa requirements for BiH’s citizens.
