Romania Leader Discusses Nuclear Plant

Romanian President Traian Basescu visited Paris Monday to discuss among other issues the possibility of building a nuclear reactor for Romania, with France’s leader.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s office said Monday’s meeting over lunch would be devoted mainly to bilateral issues, the Associated Press reported.

Basescu said in an interview published Monday with the business daily Les Echos that Romania wants a new nuclear reactor, with the location to be decided soon. Romania now has two reactors.

Associated Press reported that the two leaders were also likely to discuss the EU backed Nabucco pipeline projects designed to carry gas to Europe through Turkey and Romania from Middle Eastern and Caspian countries other than Russia.
