Schengen technical reports on Romania and Bulgaria to be decided on Friday

Members of the Schengen evaluation group are to decide on Friday if they are going to pass the technical reports for Romania and Bulgaria. On January 14, at the request of the French representative, group members gave some extra time for examination of the report on Romania.

The deadline for asking questions and further clarifications expired on January 21 without any further information to be requested from Bucharest.

The report for Romania got a positive evaluation, while the report for Bulgaria – negative. However the Hungarian EU Presidency is considering the possibility to allow partial accession of the two countries in the Schengen Area in March.
