EC against early parliamentary elections in Serbia

European Commission (EC) is of the opinion that there is no need for early elections in Serbia. According to an unnamed source from Commissioner Štefan Füle’s cabinet, EC has communicated its stance to Tomislav Nikolić’s Serbian Progressive Party (SSP). The Commission reckons eventual early elections held this year would disrupt the reform process and the country’s stability.

Nikolić went on a hunger and thirst strike last week demanding early elections. His health status is seriously impaired and he has been hospitalised in a private clinic in Belgrade.
