Albania to Offer Medical Aid to Syrian Refugees

Prime Minister Sali Berisha asked his cabinet on Wednesday to send medical staff to Turkey and Jordan in order to help refugees fleeing the Syrian civil war.“We should help these refugees and send our doctors, nurses, surgeons or even a field hospital as an offer of our solidarity,” Berisha said. The current unrest in Syria has so far forced at least 150,000 people to abandon their homes and seek safety in the neighboring countries of Turkey, Lebanon and Jordan.

Berisha also called on the international community to intervene in the conflict, calling Syrian strongman Bashar Al-Assad a war criminal who was committing acts of genocide against his own people.

“The creation of a no fly zone and humanitarian corridors would speed up the process of bringing down this dictator,” Berisha said.
