UN officials to probe alleged use of chemicals in Syria

imgThe High Representative for Disarmament Affairs Angela Kane and the Head of the UN Mission to investigate the alleged use of chemical weapons in Syria Ake Sellstrom will travel to Damascus next week at the invitation of the Syrian Government, UN Spokesman Martin Nesirky said.

“The purpose of the visit will be to complete the consultations on the modalities and cooperation required for the proper, safe and efficient conduct of the Mission,” he explained.

He added that the Secretary-General “hopes that the visit will result in the mutual understanding on the access of the Mission to conduct its fact-funding activities and establish the facts pertaining to reports received by the Secretary-General” concerning such allegations.
