Poland backs Romania on Schengen entry

Visiting Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski reconfirmed Wednesday that Poland supports Romania’s bid to join Schengen.

“Poland supports Romania’s accession to Schengen Zone,” the head of the Polish diplomacy said, adding that “the country meets the technical criteria, which means it’s ready to take the next logical step.”

The two countries must benefit more from the excellent bilateral political relations, through consolidating economic cooperation and encouraging investments, Sikorski told a joint press conference with his Romanian counterpart Titus Corlatean.

“Poland is a near and dear friend of Romania’s, a key European partner and a traditional ally,” Corlatean said in his turn, adding that there is a functioning strategic partnership, a comprehensive political dialogue and solid economic ties between the two countries.
