Romania promissed to open Radauti Prut-Lipcani border

A new border between Romania and Moldova will open no later than on February 12. At least this is what Romanian authorities promised.

The announcement was made by prefect of Botosani, Cristian Roman. He met Sunday with County Council President Mihai Ţibuleac, with customs authorities and Border Police, but also with several heads of public institutions to achieve a schedule to open the border no later than in two weeks.

This is President Traian Basescu visit consequences, who established with his Moldovan counterpart urgent opening of the frontier Radauti Prut-Lipcani.

“After discussions we had Friday with Secretary of State for the Ministry of Interior, Dan Fatuloiu, we established a program of preparation with deadlines and responsibilities to opening this border point. We invited all those responsible who are involved in one way or another. We send to the Ministry of Interior all our proposals, following up to Monday the material reaches the office of President Traian Basescu, “said the Romanian prefect.

Radauti Prut customs office will work temporarily with installing processes of certain buildings . Subsequently, Botosani authorities will work with the government in order to be constructed a permanent residence. Temporary checkpoint near the city hall will be equipped with two crossing point shifts, one for entry and one for leaving the country. Point will be located in eight offices of mobile modules that will be connected to utilities and communications infrastructure, following each institution that will carry out its activity to make their facilities and technical furniture.

“District Council did everything possible to open the border crossing point. Saturday I had the opportunity to give the prime minister a file with all the steps we have done before. In 2006, Botosani county received a task, but were not allocated fundings to achieve it. Now we construct a temporary checkpoint, but what it is important is that this is an open traffic and guarantee that we will receive support from the Government to make customs as we intended, “said County Council President Mihail Ţibuleac .

Border crossing point of Radauti Prut-Lipcani could not be opened because the Romanian authorities have not arranged customs office and related infrastructure, although the Moldovan side has made a similar investment in Lipcani. The opening section is a priority for the European Union, which financed the construction of a three million euro bridge over the Prut between the two countries.
