Leader Attends Memorial Ceremony for IRGC Plane Crash Martyrs

The Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei, attended a memorial ceremony to commemorate martyred Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) officers on January 14.

The IRGC Ground Force Commander Major General Ahmad Kazemi and a number of other senior IRGC officers were martyred when their airplane crashed near the city of Orumiyeh in Western Azarbaijan Province on January 9.

The memorial ceremony was also attended by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi-Shahroudi, Majlis Speaker Gholamali Haddad-Adel, former Iranian president Mohammad Khatami and a large number of government officials and senior military officers, including Cabinet members, Majlis deputies, members of the Expediency Council and army and IRGC commanding officers.

The honorable families of martyrs and a large group of people from various social strata also attended the commemorative service, which was held at Shahid Motahhari Higher Education School from 9:00 to 11:00 in the morning.
