Iran Rejects Arms Sales to Somalia

TEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyed Mohammad Ali Hoseini here on Wednesday strongly denied recent reports about Iran’s arms sales to Somalia.

According to a statement released by the Foreign Ministry’s Information and Press Bureau, Hoseini viewed release of such reports as a measure serving the intentions of the enemies.

“Such reports are fabricated by those powers who spark war and bloodshed in Somalia by dispatching arms and weapons to that country,” he stressed.

The spokesman further reiterated Iran’s respect for the contents of the international conventions and regulations as well as Iran’s friendly ties and relations with the Somalian government, and said, “The Islamic Republic of Iran hopes that ethnic and civil conflicts in Somalia are ended through continued talks and adoption of peaceful measures so that the grounds will be paved for the restoration of peace and calm in that country.
