OIC Supports Iran’s N. Rights

Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic conference stressed OIC’s full support for Iran’s right to access and use civilian nuclear technology.

Ekmeloddin Ihsanoglou made the remarks in a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki here in Tehran on Wednesday, where the two sides reviewed the current developments of the world of Islam and discussed OIC issues, a report released by the Foreign Ministry’s Information and Press Bureau said.

During the meeting, Mottaki praised the efforts made by the OIC Secretary General to contribute a more active role in connection with the developments of the Muslim world.

He further pointed to the necessity for the increased activity of the Islamic states in the upcoming OIC summit in Islamabad, and said that in the upcoming meeting of the senior experts and foreign ministers in Islamabad, the Islamic Republic of Iran will raise fresh proposals and innovations in grounds of Muslim unity and the Muslim state’s entitlement to the use of peaceful nuclear energy.

Mottaki expressed the hope that through the efforts of the OIC and its member states, the said issues would prove as proper grounds for the enhanced activity and success of the OIC.

He voiced Iran’s preparedness to propose some amendments to be made to the OIC charter, and stressed Iran’s due attention to the issues of the OIC and the world of Islam.

The Iranian top diplomat praised OIC and its Secretary General for their support of Iran’s right of access to civilian nuclear technology, and expressed hope that OIC’s continued support for the materialization of the rights and interests of Muslim states would be realized in Iran’s nuclear issue as well.

For his part, the OIC Secretary General briefed Mottaki about the working agenda of his organization with regard to the revision of the OIC charter, and expressed the hope that the path to the enhanced role and activity of the OIC would be paved through the help and assistance of all Muslim states and through their solidarity.

He further reiterated that the Islamic Republic of Iran as a great country has always played an influential role in its bilateral and multilateral relations with the OIC, and underlined Iran’s right to access civilian nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
