Quake Hits Northern Iran

A03618075.jpgTEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- An earthquake measuring 4 on the Richter scale jolted the town of Kiasar in Iran’s northern province of Mazandaran Wednesday.

According to the seismological base of Mazandaran province affiliated to the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the quake was registered at 06:22 hours local time (02:52 GMT).

The epicenter of the quake was located in an area measuring 53.49 degrees in longitude and 36.30 degrees in latitude.

Director General of Mazandaran natural disasters headquarters said that the province is a quake-prone region, experiencing over 180 tremors of over 4 degrees in magnitude during the last 100 years.

No reports have yet been received on the possible number of casualties or damage to properties by the quakes.
