Iranian Deputy FM Meets Venezuelan President

A009017248.jpg TEHRAN (FNA) Iran’s deputy Foreign Minister Alireza Sheikh Attar and Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez in a meeting in Guatemala City on Thursday conferred about the decisions adopted during OPEC’s recent heads-of-state summit in Saudi Arabia.

Sheikh Attar is in Guatemala as a special envoy of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to attend the oath of office ceremony of the country’s president-elect.

During the meeting, the Iranian deputy foreign minister and Venezuelan president discussed mutual cooperation as well as other issues of mutual interest, specially the two states’ cooperation within the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

The two sides also exchanged views about the required follow-up measures to the decisions made in the last heads-of-state summit of the oil cartel in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and decided to form a working group comprised of the two countries’ foreign and oil ministry officials in the near future in a bid to pursue the said issue.

Iran-Venezuela joint cooperation in regional projects was among other issues discussed during the meeting between Sheikh Attar and Chavez.
