Book Reading Movement Expanding in Iran

A00180925.jpgTEHRAN (FNA) – Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Mohammad Hossein Saffar Harandi said in the country’s 25th Year Book ceremony Saturday evening that book reading movement is expanding all over the country.

“The Ten-Day Dawn is an opportunity to review our cultural and artistic works and in this concern ‘Book’ has a very special position,” Saffar Harandi said.

He also said that in the current year officials had a priority for books, for instance, books worth more than 150 bln rials were purchased from publishers for public libraries all around the country, which shows a tenfold increase compared with the same period in the last year.

He said upon a new initiative in Hormozgan province, ministry of culture and Islamic guidance in an agreement with health, treatment and medical education ministry has opened a small library in all “Health House” venues in all towns and villages of the province.

Saffar Harandi added, “This plan will be implemented in the other provinces of the country.”

The 25th ceremony of Islamic Republic of Iran’s Year Book and the 15th round of world award wrapped up its work on Saturday evening.

President Ahmadinejad, Parliament Speaker Gholam Ali Haddad Adel, Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Saffar Harandi, a number of foreign ambassadors in Tehran, foreign guests, academics, culture and art personalities attended the ceremony.
