Iran Stresses Regional Cooperation

A00921751.jpgTEHRAN (FNA)- Chairman of Iran’s Expediency Council Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said leaders of the regional states could play a crucial role in strengthening peace and security.

In a meeting with the Omani Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Bin Alawi in Tehran, Rafsanjani voiced concern over the ongoing developments in Iraq, and stated that cooperation among regional countries and Iraq’s neighbors would be effective in resolving the country’s problems, press tv reported.

He called on states in the region and the international community to support the Iraqi government’s efforts to establish stability and security in the country, adding that Iran backs the rights of the Iraqi nation.

The head of the Assembly of Experts said the Lebanese crisis would be settled only through a consensus among the main players on the political scene and expressed Iran’s readiness to help Lebanon resolve its problems.

Rafsanjani called for further bolstering of ties with Oman in light of the historical, religious and cultural commonalities between the two countries.

The Omani minister said in the meeting that regional countries should expand their cooperation to settle the Iraqi, Lebanese and Palestinian crises and stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran plays a vital part in those issues.

He expressed Muscat’s interest in enhanced relations with Tehran in various fields.
