Former German Chancellor Stresses Closer Ties with Iran

A00395876.jpgTEHRAN (FNA)- Former German chancellor Gerhard Schroeder reiterated Berlin’s interest in expanding relations with Iran.

In a meeting with outgoing Iranian ambassador to Germany Mohammad Mehdi Akhundzadeh, Schroeder said an expanded relation between the two states could help promote peace in the region.

“International and regional developments as well as the two states’ potential require Tehran and Berlin to further bolster bilateral ties,” Tehran Times quoted Akhundzadeh as saying during the meeting.

Schroeder also expressed willingness to visit Iran and hold talks with Iranian officials.

Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki earlier this month traveled to Germany and held talks with senior German officials on the latest regional and international developments.
