Russian Policemen Leave Kosovo

Four hundred Russian policemen leave Kosovo after nine years of service under UNMIK.

Russia has ended its “participation in the peaceful operation in Kosovo”, Russian UNMIK commander, Leonid Pogorelov, said today.

Pogorelov told B92 that the last Russian police left Kosovo yesterday.

He said the image of Russian officers was high and other representatives wanted to work with them in the mission in Kosovo.

Russian policemen, who arrived after the UN administration was installed in Kosovo following the end of the conflict between local Albanians and Serbia, have mainly discharged police duties such as maintaining patrols and arresting criminals.

Since December 9, UN police staff have been replaced by the European Union Rule of Law Mission, EULEX.
