Georgia detains former NATO coordinator on suspicion of espionage

TBILISI

Georgian counterintelligence officers detained former head of the Coordinating headquarters of the NATO Partnership for Peace plan Irakly Batkuashvili on suspicion of espionage, his lawyer Onise Mebonia said on Thursday. 

Colonel Batkuashvili occupied the post up to 2004.

From 2004 he headed the strategic planning department and since October 2008 has been the head of the educational department of the Georgian defense ministry.
