Romania denies new reports of hosting secret CIA prisons

BUCHAREST, Romania

Romania on Thursday denied reports that it was host to a secret facility run by the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) for detention of suspected terrorists. “I think this is a story to discredit Romania,” said Norica Nicolai, the head of Romania parliamentary committee to review similar accusations.

The New York Times on Wednesday reported that a Germany-based CIA supplier by the name of Kyle Foggo helped build the facility in “a renovated building on a busy street in Bucharest,” as well as CIA jails in other countries.

The Romanian domestic intelligence service SIE stated that it had no information on the issue, while the US embassy in Bucharest stated it would not comment on “speculation” by the New York Times.
