Sejdiu calls for “restraint during elections”

KOSOVO

Fatmir Sejdiu says all political parties in Kosovo should urge voters to refrain from any kind of action that could jeopardize the electoral process.

The Kosovo Albanian spoke about the local elections scheduled to be held in November after his meeting with Ramus Haradinaj, the leader of the opposition Alliance for the Future of Kosovo.

Sejdiu stated that the 2009 local elections were the first ones organized by the institutions of the “independent and sovereign state of Kosovo”, and that it was very important that they were prepared properly, and “according to the highest principles of democracy”.

He pointed out that the November elections were “very important for Kosovo’s image in the world, so all political parties should work toward achieving a fair process”.

“Party leaders should call upon the electorate to refrain from any type of action that could undermine the success of this process,” Sejdiu said.

Haradinaj stated that his party would continue “trying to fulfill the aspirations and interests of Kosovo’s citizens, while calling for fair conditions in which elections could be held”, said reports from Priština.
