Restrictions for workers of non-EU countries

BULGARIA

An amendment in the regulations concerning the terms of issuing, denying, and annulling work permits for foreign workers in Bulgaria will restrict the possibilities for foreign workers to be employed in the cases when there are Bulgarian workers for the jobs, Minister of Labour and Social Policy Totio Mladenov has announced.

This amendment will not apply to the citizens of the EU member-states, but only in the cases when workers from third countries are employed, the minister pointed out.

According to the planned amendments, the employers will be obligated to announce the job vacancies in the whole country and not only in the region where they are based. Employers who have made laid off redundant workers during a preceding 6-month period will not have the right to employ foreign citizens, as it is stipulated in the amendments.
