Russia urges NATO to prevent violence in Kosovo

The Russian Foreign Ministry has called on the EU, NATO and the UN to prevent Priština from taking control over parts where Serbs are the majority by force.

“Unfortunately, it is very likely that despite the agreement on refraining from military from August 5, Priština might be tempted to regain the control over the Serb population in Kosovo by force,” Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said.

He added that he had called on the EU, NATO and the UN, which had their mission offices in the region, to show maximum responsibility in order to prevent such a scenario from occurring and pointed out that concerns of the people living northern Kosovo should not be ignored, according to Russian media.
