Kosovo wants EU observers to monitor municipal elections

Kosovo President Atifete Jahjaga has asked for a group of EU observers to monitor the municipal elections that should be held in Kosovo in November.

She sent her request to EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton.

Jahjaga said that “in her capacity as president of Kosovo, she will take all measures to ensure free and just elections that will result in the election of legitimate representatives of citizens’ interests”.

“That is why I invite you to send an EU mission to monitor the course of the elections, Jahjaga said in the letter. I welcome the possibility to host EU observers in Kosovo during the fall,” she added.
