Iraq FM to visit Turkey

Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari will visit Turkey, Hurriyetdailynews newspaper reported on Thursday.

According to the newspaper, the planned visit will take place at the end of this month.

Bilateral rapprochement, as well as the Syrian crisis, as well as economic and regional issues will be discussed within the visit.

Tension has been observed in relations between Iraq and Turkey for more than a year. Earlier, Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki said that Turkey is turning into an enemy to all states in the region due to its attempts to ‘dominate’ it and ‘to intervene in the affairs of its neighbours’.

In response, Erdogan said that Iraq should in the first instance sort out its internal affairs before it accuses the neighbouring countries of hostility.

Energy cooperation between Turkey and the Kurdish autonomy of Iraq increased tension in their relations. The Turkish side has made statements in recent months that Turkey is not going to refuse cooperation with the Kurdish autonomy of Iraq in the oil and gas spheres.
