France welcomes Tunisian solution to break political crisis

France on Saturday lauded the roadmap adopted by the participants in the inaugural session of the Tunisian national dialogue to emerge from the current political crisis.

France hopes that the dialogue will continue with the spirit of responsibility until the completion of the political transition, the adoption of new constitution and holding fresh democratic elections, Foreign Ministry spokesman Philippe Lalliot said in a statement.

He was commenting on the text of the roadmap signed earlier today by leaders of 21 Tunisian parties and brokered by the Quartet sponsoring dialogue.

Lalliot said France appreciated the successful mediation of the Quartet made up of the Tunisian General Labor Union (UGTT), the Tunisian Industry, Trade and Handicrafts Union (UTICA), the Tunisian Human Rights League (LTDH), and the Bar Association.

The roadmap stipulates that the incumbent government, led by the Islamist Ennahda party, tenders its resignation within three weeks as of today, in order to give way to a mutually-acceptable government headed by an independent figure.
