Russia parliament votes to terminate agreements with Ukraine on Black Sea fleet

Russian parliament approved on Monday a bill ending a series of agreements with Ukraine on the Black Sea fleet.

“As a result of the treaty signed between Russia and the Republic of Crimea on 18 March 2014 on the accession of Crimea to Russia, subject to agreements between Russia and Ukraine has been canceled due to actually end the legal lease to Russia’s Black Sea facilities fleet in Ukraine, “the State Duma lower house of parliament, said in a statement.

In accordance with an agreement “gas-to-fleet”, signed in April 2010, Russia nodded to a fall in prices of 30 per cent for gas supplies to Ukraine in exchange for extending the lease to the naval base at Sevastopol for another 25 years.
