Bosnian Serbs Indicted for Kotor Varos Teenager’s Rape

Former Bosnian Serb soldiers Bosiljko and Ostoja Markovic have been indicted by the state prosecution for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl in the Kotor Varos area in 1992.

The indictment filed on Wednesday alleges that the two men, former members of the Kotor Varos Brigade of the Bosnian Serb Army, came to the village of Orahova on the evening of June 28, 1992, and took the teenage girl from a house.

She was seized in the presence of her family under the pretext that she would be freed under a prisoner exchange, the state prosecution statement said.

“After that, threatening the victim with a knife and a firearm, they alternately and repeatedly committed rape and sexual abuse, which lasted for around three hours,” the statement said.

The two men are not believed to be related although they share the same surname.

Their indictment has been forwarded to the Bosnian state court for confirmation.
