US Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan expressed during a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar Abadi support for reconstruction efforts in the country.
Sullivan was quoted by a government statement as saying the US support for Iraq would continue, particularly to rebuilding the country, boosting economy, attracting investment and creation of jobs.
He commended the Iraqi forces for defeating so-called Islamic State (IS).
Sullivan and Abadi discussed the strategic partnership between Iraq and the US, said the statement.
The US embassy in Baghdad announced earlier that more than 400 international companies, including 100 American firms, would participate in an international conference for the reconstruction of Iraq, due in Kuwait on Feburary 12-14.
