The war in Gaza has been ongoing for exactly six months: Is an end in sight?

The war in Gaza between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas movement, which has been ongoing for six months and has claimed the lives of tens of thousands of people, shows no signs of ending, according to the German news agency dpa.

Negotiations for a ceasefire and the release of hostages held by Hamas continue in Cairo, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faces increasing pressure both domestically and internationally.

Tens of thousands of people took to the streets of Tel Aviv and other Israeli cities on Saturday night to protest against Netanyahu’s government and demand more coordinated efforts to secure the release of individuals abducted by Hamas. Last week’s Israeli airstrike on a humanitarian aid convoy sparked criticism from some of Israel’s staunchest international allies.

The Hamas delegation intends to travel to Cairo for negotiations on a possible ceasefire agreement, but these talks have stalled in recent weeks.

The war began on October 7 last year when hundreds of terrorists, mostly from Hamas but also from other militant groups in Gaza, crossed the fortified border and killed people in nearby towns and at a music festival. Around 1,200 people have been killed in Israel, and 250 have been abducted and taken to Gaza. Since then, dozens of them have been released, while several others have been found dead or freed by the Israeli army.

The unprecedented attack led to a massive campaign of Israeli airstrikes and a ground military offensive that started just a few weeks ago in the northern coastal enclave and passed through every major city except Rafah in the south. According to Hamas authorities in Gaza, over 32,500 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks so far, as reported by Hina.
