Who voted for Kosovo in the Council of Europe?

The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, at the session held yesterday, decided to start the procedure for considering Kosovo’s request for admission to that organization.

Against this proposal were Romania, Cyprus, Spain, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Serbia, as well as Hungary, even though the country recognized the independence of Kosovo.

The biggest surprise were the countries that abstained: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece, Slovakia, Moldova and Ukraine.

While 33 countries voted for the proposal, Great Britain, Turkey, Switzerland, Sweden, San Marino, Portugal, Poland, Norway, Netherlands, Malta, Monaco, Luxembourg, Lithuania, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Italy, Ireland, Iceland, Germany, France, Finland, Estonia, Denmark, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Belgium, Austria, Andorra and from the region Montenegro, Slovenia, North Macedonia, Croatia and Albania.

Armenia did not vote.

The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe has 46 member states, and Pristina’s request will be forwarded to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

According to announcements, the vote for Kosovo’s admission to the CE can be expected in about a year.
