From data published in The Lancet by expert epidemiologists it is estimated that by 25 April 2025 about 680,000 Gazans had been killed in the Gaza Genocide, 28% of the pre-war population and mostly children. Yet racist and lying Western Mainstream media presently report about 50,000 Gaza deaths. We must acknowledge the deaths and apply draconian sanctions on US-backed Apartheid Israel and all its supporters in the absence of an immediate end to the killing and human rights denial.
In 2024 I published a huge book entitled “Free Palestine. End Apartheid Israel, Human Rights Denial, Gaza Massacre, Child Killing, Occupation and Palestinian Genocide”. The sub-title lists crucial things to be done to free Palestine. However the immediate problem is how to stop the horror immediately, and the crucial actions are (a) to end the killing and (b) restore to all the sorely oppressed Palestinians all the human rights set out in the 30 Articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and from which Occupied Palestinians have been excluded for 58 years, with failure of US- and US Alliance-backed Apartheid Israel to do this immediately incurring draconian global Boycotts, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) against Apartheid Israel and all its supporters.
This present analysis arose from interactions with some excellent and prominent activists for Palestinian human rights and my pleading as a scientist that the Numbers are important for our advocacy, notably (a) how many Gazans have been killed (680,000 from violence and deprivation by 25 April 2025), and (b) from how many of the 30 Articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights have Occupied Palestinians been excluded (30). Yet one of the most outstanding activists for Palestinian human rights contacted commented that quoting the huge death toll as estimated by expert epidemiologists (680,000) would damage our humanitarian cause because they are so huge as to be implausible. Indeed other excellent and prominent activists typically follow the Mainstream media in reporting about 50,000 Gaza deaths so far.
Likewise I argued that of the 6 actions specified in the title of my book “Free Palestine. End Apartheid Israel, Human Rights Denial, Gaza Massacre, Child Killing, Occupation and Palestinian Genocide”, the most fundamental is “End… Human Rights Denial” that if observed and applied would immediately end the century-long horror of the Palestinian Genocide. It can be achieved not by bullets, bombs and missiles but by the stroke of a pen. “End… Human Rights Denial” is an unexceptional and fundamental proposition for decent people and should be central to human advocacy over Palestine. Instead this moral clarity is superseded by arguments for “a 2-state solution”, “a 1-state solution”, “borders”, “land swaps”, and temporary, complex and qualified “ceasefire” propositions variously involving “prisoner swaps”.
Scientists like to reduce mountains of complex phenomenology to simple equations such as E=mc2 (energy equals the mass multiplied by the speed of light squared). The wonderful Jewish Palestinian humanitarian Jesus reduced the morality of our interpersonal relations to simply “love thy neighbour as thyself”.
0.7 million deaths from violence and deprivation in the 2023 onwards Gaza Genocide and the century-long Palestinian Genocide
The Palestinian Breakout from the Gaza Concentration Camp and the 57 year Zionist Israeli Occupation was associated with the deaths of 1,139 Israelis. However prize-winning Western journalists have disputed the “official Zionist Israeli narrative” and it seems increasingly likely that the 7 October 2023 Breakout was deliberately enabled by the Zionist Israelis to provide a 9/11-style excuse for the complete destruction and ethnic cleansing of Gaza that has now been proposed both by Trump and the Zionist Israelis. Many of the Israelis killed on 7 October 2023 were victims of the high explosive firepower of the responding IDF operating under the IDF Hannibal Directive (prevent hostage taking even if it means killing the hostages) [1, 2].
From data published by expert epidemiologists in the leading medical journal The Lancet, by 25 April 2025 (the war dead remembrance Anzac Day in settler colonialism-based Australia and New Zealand) it is estimated that Gaza deaths from violence (136,000) and imposed deprivation (544,000 on the conservative basis that they were 4 times the violent deaths) total 680,000 or about 0.7 million.
Exhaustive analysis of avoidable deaths from deprivation in all countries from 1950 onwards revealed that under-5 infant deaths were about 70% of such avoidable deaths in impoverished countries (Gideon Polya, “Body Count. Global avoidable mortality since 1950”).
Accordingly, as of Anzac Day 2025, the 544,000 Gaza deaths from imposed deprivation included about 380,000 under-5 infant deaths. The 680,000 Gaza deaths from violence and imposed deprivation by 25 April 2025 included deaths of about 380,000 under-5 year old infants, 479,000 children in total, 63,000 women and 138,000 men. Zionist-perverted Western Mainstream media report about 50,000 violent deaths and almost totally ignore the huge number of deaths from imposed deprivation. Presently Gaza deaths from violence and imposed deprivation total about 0.7 million.
Taking the Gaza Genocide deaths into account, the century-long Palestinian Genocide is so far associated with 2.7 million deaths from violence (0.2 million), and imposed deprivation (2.5 million). The WW2 Jewish Holocaust was associated with 5-6 million deaths from violence and deprivation [3-20].
Interestingly, National Security Agency (NSA)-advised President Donald Trump has repeatedly indicated 1.7 million Gazans surviving from the pre-war population of 2.4 million i.e. 0.7 million “missing”, and allowing for 0.1 million who escaped to Egypt, this implies 0.6 million Gazans killed by early 2025 [21-25]. A recent 2025 Israeli study implies 577,000 Gazans missing if one assumes a pre-war Gaza population of 2.4 million [26].
Numbers matter.
Lord Kelvin (Father of Thermodynamics that is at the core of Chemistry, Physics and indeed the Industrial Revolution) famously stated that you should use numbers if you want to have a sensible discussion.
The racist and mendacious Mainstream hide the “deaths from violence and imposed deprivation” (Google this phrase) due to wars and hegemony because the numbers are so huge and utterly condemn the US, the US Alliance, Australia and US-backed Apartheid Israel. Thus Australia has been involved in all 1950 onwards US Asian wars, with these atrocities being associated with 40 million Asian deaths from violence and war-imposed deprivation.
There is a Mainstream myth that ordinary Australians and Westerners cannot manage numbers but they do understand sporting scores (e.g. Australia’s cricket hero Don Bradman’s batting average of 99.94) and key financial parameters (they would certainly understand the difference between the current inflation rate of 2.4% and an inflation rate of 24%).
Presently the racist, mendacious and genocide-ignoring Western Mainstream media report about 50,000 violent Gaza deaths but Gaza deaths from violence and deprivation total about 700,000.
The World (notably the US-allied West) ignores 700,000 Gazans killed by Apartheid Israel but (a) when South African police shot 69 Africans in the 1960 Sharpeville Massacre the World galvanized and imposed rigorous Sanctions that eventually ended Apartheid in South Africa; (b) those substantially under-reporting deaths in the WW2 Jewish Holocaust (5-6 million) are jailed in Israel and several European countries; and (c) the abusing, traumatizing, injuring, starving, and killing of Gazans would result in jailing if applied to livestock or pet animals in Australia.
I estimate 479,000 children killed in Gaza by US-, West- and Australia-backed Zionist Israelis in Gaza by 25 April 2025. Wonderful humanitarian Jesus: “And whosoever shall offend ONE of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea” [27].
Who are Westerners and my fellow Australian countrymen going to believe about 700,000 Gaza deaths? They evidently listen to stupid, cowardly, ignorant, racist and mendacious Mainstream media and politician presstitutes of the US Republican-Democrat Duopoly, of the UK Labour-Tory Duopoly, and the Western Duopoly Corporatocracies in general. In my country, look-the-other-way Australia, the voting public listen to Labor Government and Coalition Opposition politicians and the mendacious US-owned media. However Mainstream media censorship and lying means that Westerners are not exposed to numerous expert epidemiologists published in the leading medical journal The Lancet or indeed me (I have been researching “deaths from violence and imposed deprivation” for 3 decades, and published hundreds of huge, exhaustively referenced articles and 9 huge books on the subject) [31-40].
Call me utterly naïve , but I would like to believe that numbers matter and my fellow Western and Australian human beings if properly informed would simply not vote for politicians complicit in the genocidally racist Zionist Israeli mass murder of 700,000 Gazans, mostly women and children. In Australia the Labor Government and the Coalition Opposition are complicit in the Gaza Genocide in 20 ways and lie for Apartheid Israel in 35 ways [28-30] but are not held to account because of Zionist perversion and massive Mainstream lying, censorship and intimidation of journalists. I am proud that I have publicly defended (necessarily mostly in media outside Australia) about 40 Australian writers threatened or punished by mendacious Mainstream presstitutes [41, 42].
Unfortunately since WW2 Australia has been a craven US lackey, and since Israeli acquisition of nuclear weapons and seizure of all of Palestine in 1967 the US has increasing become a lackey of Apartheid Israel [43]. The Western democracies have become Kleptocracies, Plutocracies, Murdochracies, Lobbyocracies, Corporatocracies and Dollarocracies in which Big Money purchases people, politicians, parties, policies, public perception of reality, more political power and hence more private profit. Jews make up 19% of the Forbes 200 World’s richest list [44] and 14.5% of the Australian richest 200 [45]. However silence is complicity and the failure of the richest Jews to condemn the genocidal atrocities of Apartheid Israel leads to the conclusion that they are Zionist Jews or are otherwise passively complicit in Zionism through their silence [45].
While numerous wonderful anti-racist Jewish intellectuals are resolutely critical of the ongoing Palestinian Genocide, Western Mainstream media variously censor or white-wash the nuclear terrorist, genocidally racist, and grossly human rights-abusing conduct of Apartheid Israel. A part explanation for this huge moral discrepancy is that the American 60% of the world’s 30 biggest media companies have a disproportionately high Jewish Board membership. Jews and females represent 2% and 51%, respectively, of the US population but average 33% and 19%, respectively, of Board members of the top 18 US media companies [46]. In Australia about 70% of the city daily newspaper readership has been secured by the fervently pro-Zionist US Murdoch media empire. The result has been a malignant subversion and perversion of Australians and Australian institutions by a Zionist-dominated America, Apartheid Israel and Zionist Australian agents of Apartheid Israel [47]. This appalling state of affairs is reinforced by Zionist and pro-Zionist lying and censorship in the US, the West and Australia, and most awfully by the monstrous lie applied to anti-racist Jews and non-Jews alike that anti-Zionism and opposition to genocidal Apartheid Israeli crimes are “antisemitic”.
Final comments and conclusions.
Each day we get news of starving Gazans being massacred while trying to get food. This is intolerable. The world contains 2 kinds of people, those opposing the mass murder of children and the unforgivable others. However in our opposition to the awful and ongoing genocidal crimes of Apartheid Israel we must be uncompromising and consequently effective. We must tell the unvarnished truth and not soften the narrative by surrendering to Zionist-perverted Mainstream sensibilities and false perceptions. Indeed anti-racist Moshe Menuhin (father of the great musician and anti-Zionist humanitarian Yehudi Menuhin) put it bluntly: “Jews should be Jews, not Nazis) [48].
And we should further call out incorrect assertions such as the overwhelming Mainstream reportage of 50,000 Gaza deaths that under-counts the actual 700,000 Gaza deaths from violence and deprivation by a factor of 14 times. Indeed the leading journal Nature has recently reported that “The researchers estimate that in the 15 months up to 5 January [2025], there were around 75,200 violent deaths in Gaza. Another 8,540 people died of non-violent causes as a result of the war” [49]. However expert epidemiologists published in the leading medical journal The Lancet and elsewhere “conservatively” estimate that Gaza deaths from imposed deprivation (indirect deaths) are 4 times greater than the violent deaths (direct deaths) [6, 11, 12]. Indeed in my careful analysis using UN Population Division data the ratio of indirect/direct deaths ranges from about 1 (the Iraq War) [50] to 16 (the Afghan War) [51]. Indeed the UNHCR, “Global burden of armed violence” report ( 2008) stated: “In the majority of conflicts since the early 1990s for which good data is available, the burden of indirect deaths was between three and 15 times the number of direct deaths. Variation in the ratio of direct to indirect deaths depends on the pre-conflict level of development of the country, the duration of the fighting, the intensity of combat, access to basic care and services, and humanitarian relief efforts. The lethal burden of armed conflict in 2004–07 was many times greater than the number of direct conflict deaths. A reasonable average estimate would be a ratio of four indirect deaths” [52]. Taking the Nature data [49], by 25 April 2025 violent Gaza deaths totalled 94,000, indirect death totalled 376,000 (assuming an indirect/direct ratio of 4) and direct plus indirect deaths totalled 470,000. The astonishing assertion that “8,540 people died of non-violent causes” [49] implies 10,0675 such deaths by 25 April 2025 or 5,466 indirect deaths per year, yet pre-war in 2022 annual total deaths in Palestine totalled 9,249 [53]!
We must acknowledge the Gaza Genocide deaths (presently about 0.7 million), and demand an immediate end to the killing and restoration to all the sorely oppressed Palestinians of all the human rights set out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and enjoyed by most people in the West and indeed ideally by most of Humanity. I have reported on the Palestinian Genocide for 2 decades and the Gaza Genocide since 7 October 2023 [31-40, 54-58]. We cannot wait until the Zionist Israelis, having already killed 28% of the pre-war Gaza population, have killed everyone in the Gaza Concentration Camp.
