Russian FSB raids Syktyvkar cultural center in treason case amid wave of searches targeting journalists and activists

Agents from Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) raided the independent cultural space Revolt Center in Syktyvkar, the capital of the Komi Republic, on Tuesday morning.

According to the Telegram channel Novaya Respublika, officers also searched the homes of the center’s staff, “from managers to baristas.”

The raids are reportedly linked to a criminal case, with treason listed as the charge on the search warrant, Sever.Realii reported, citing a source familiar with the case.

Novaya Gazeta Europe writes that law enforcement has “grievances” against Pavel Andreyev, the former head of the outlet 7×7 and one of the Revolt Center’s founders. However, a source told Novaya that the raids are unrelated to the treason case.

Separately, a source told the outlet Sota that at least five more searches were being carried out in other regions of Russia, targeting people who had taken part in Revolt Center seminars. These reports have not been officially confirmed.

Earlier on Tuesday, Russian media reported that authorities were conducting raids in multiple regions targeting journalists and human rights activists. In Kaliningrad, police raided the home of journalist Ekaterina Tkacheva, a contributor to Sotavision. In Karelia, they searched the home of journalist Valery Potashov, a contributor to Novaya Gazeta. Authorities also raided the homes of prison rights activists Svyatoslav Khromenkov, Irina Protasova, and Olga Vasilyeva in Irkutsk and Yoshkar-Ola.
