Georgian opposition says activist shot dead

TBILISI (Reuters) – Georgia’s main opposition coalition said one of its activists was shot dead with a hunting rifle as he went to vote in Wednesday’s parliamentary election at a polling station in western Georgia.

The activist was shot in the Tsalendjikha district which borders Georgia’s breakaway region of Abkhazia. It was unclear who was responsible.

“He was shot with a hunting rifle as he went to the polling station,” David Gamkrelidze, one of the leaders of the united opposition, told Reuters. “We do not know who killed him but we demand an immediate investigation.”
