Iran Extends Wheat Tender Deadline

A01528086.jpgTEHRAN (FNA) – Iran’s state purchasing agency has extended the bidding deadline in an international tender to buy 100,000 tons of Kazakhstan-origin milling wheat to August 9, from August 2, European traders said.

Shipment is due in October and November.

Traders said they thought Iran was hoping the fall in international wheat prices seen this week would continue, making the purchase cheaper.

Iran is one of a series of Middle Eastern countries whose grain harvest this summer has been seriously reduced by drought and other unfavorable weather.

Iran has abandoned plans announced earlier this year to become a large-scale grain exporter and instead has been making substantial purchases in the international market.
