Blast kills four in southwest Pakistani town

QUETTA, Pakistan (Reuters) – A bomb planted on a motorcycle exploded in a town in Pakistan’s insurgency racked province of Baluchistan on Wednesday, killing four people, police said.

There was no claim of responsibility for the blast in a market area of Sibi town, but nationalist Baluch rebels have been fighting for rights to the southwest province’s gas, oil and other mineral resources.

“It was a local made remote-control device. The blast killed four people on the spot,” police officer Hussain Mukhazani told Reuters by telephone from Sibi, 160 km (100 miles) east of Baluchistan’s capital, Quetta. He said two people were wounded.

Baluch rebels have waged a low-level insurgency for decades, attacking gas, pipelines, infrastructure links and security forces.
