Russian troops close to South Ossetian capital: report

MOSCOW (Reuters) – Units of Russia’s 58th Army are approaching the capital of Georgia’s breakaway region of South Ossetia, Tskhinvali, where fighting was raging on Friday, RIA news agency quoted a senior Russian commander as saying.

“Units of the 58th army have set off to help Russian peacekeepers and they are now close to Tskhinvali,” the agency quoted deputy commander of ground forces Igor Konashenkov as saying.
