Georgia says troops fighting, not defeated

MOSCOW (Reuters) – Georgian troops have not been defeated and are still fighting in and around the separatist region of South Ossetia to prevent Russian troops from making further advances, a senior Georgian official said on Sunday.

“Our troops are fighting, still fighting. They are not letting Russian troops into the city of Gori,” Kakha Lomaia, the National Security Council secretary, told a conference call.

“That means that the Russians, despite an unprecedented amount of resources they brought with them, have failed to defeat our troops.”
