“Albanian PM not threatening Serbia”

TIRANA, Albania

Albanian PM Sali Berisha’s statement about the need to “integrate Albanians” is not tantamount to provoking Belgrade, said the Foreign Ministry in Tirana.

“This is not a case of provoking Serbia. The cooperation of the republic of Albania and the republic of Kosovo is quite natural and has the goal of integration into the EU,” the Albanian media is reporting from the statement.

It also adds that “Albania supports and deeply believes that regional cooperation is a condition for European integration of the region”.

The statement also says that Berisha and his cabinet are dedicated to making progress in liberalizing the movement of goods and abolishing obstacles in that area.

Albanian ministry’s sources said they sent this statement to the government in Belgrade.

This came after a protest note the Serbian MFA delivered to the Albanian embassy in Belgrade.
