Greek PM calls Turkish counterpart on Cyprus gas drilling issue

Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou called his Turkish counterpart Monday to discuss the dispute about gas drilling in the Mediterranean between Turkey and Cyprus, a Turkish official announced.

“Both parties stressed their own position,” the official from Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s office said.

Erdogan told George Papandreou about Turkey’s opposition to Greek Cypriot explorations for undersea energy resources off the divided island.
