Egypt calls Turkish ambassador for explanations after comments on Morsi

Egypt summoned Turkey’s ambassador to Cairo on Tuesday in protest at what it viewed as Ankara’s interference in Egyptian affairs, after Turkey described the Egyptian army’s overthrow of elected President Mohamed Morsi as an “unacceptable coup”. 

Turkey’s response to last week’s military intervention was seen in Egypt as the strongest reaction from overseas.

Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu last week described the ousting of Morsi as unacceptable, branding the intervention of army as a “military coup” in contrast to the US and some European bodies, which refrained from using the word “coup.”
