Bulgaria voices concern over Ukraine decision to not recognize regional languages

The Bulgarian government is not satisfied with Ukraine’s decision to cancel the recognition of the Bulgarian language as regional language.

Earlier this week the Supreme Rada of Ukraine canceled the Language Policy Act state that the status of “regional language” the language of minority groups represent over 10% of residents in an area is granted.

Compact Bulgarian communities living in some areas of the region of Bessarabia in southern Ukraine, especially in Artsiz, Izmail and Bolgrad. There Bulgarian was granted the status of a regional language.

Another regional language in some parts of Ukraine was Russian.
