Iranian President, Saudi King Stress Boosting of Ties

A0185371.jpgTEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad here Saturday stressed the importance of bolstering ties and consultations with Saudi Arabia on issues affecting the Islamic world.

President Ahmadinejad, in a telephone conversation with Saudi King Abdullah bin Abd al-Aziz, discussed the latest developments in the Islamic world and the region, IRNA said.

King Abdullah, who praised the “friendly” and “increasing” ties of his country with Iran, called for increased cooperation and consultations by the two sides to help resolve issues affecting the Islamic world as well as reinforced security and stability in the region.

He expressed hope that relations between Tehran and Riyadh would receive a further boost considering their great potentials.

The Saudi king took the occasion to express his condolences to President Ahmadinejad for the demise of his father.

The Iranian president’s father passed away on Tuesday morning at the age of 82 due to heart failure.
