Ahmadinejad Baghdad visit will be historic: Iraqi envoy

Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad’s historic trip to Iraq will be a landmark in the two countries’ relations, Iraqi ambassador to Tehran Mohammad Majid Al-Shaikh said here on Tuesday.

Ahmadinejad is scheduled to visit Iraq on March 2.

The Iraqi government and people have great expectations about the positive and constructive effects of the Iranian president’s visit, Al-Shaikh told the Mehr News Agency.

Ahmadinejad’s trip is unique because it is the first time that a highest-ranking Iranian executive official will be visiting Iraq, he pointed out.

The envoy expressed hope that during the visit Tehran and Baghdad would sign agreements on constructing the Basra-Abadan oil pipeline, activating the Basra-Khorramshahr railroad project, and provision of $1 billion loan to Iraq by Iran.
