Iranian MP: Iran’s Power Growing Despite US Antagonism

Vice-chairman of the Iranian parliament’s Energy Commission Mohsen Yahyavi told Alalam that the recent $10-billion gas export deal between Iran and Switzerland corroborates the claim.

“The deal is important, firstly because the Islamic Republic possesses the second biggest gas reserves in the world, and secondly due to the country’s economic stability which attracts the world’s countries to deal with Iran,” Yahyavi said.

“Iran is one of the few independent countries which make decisions without any foreign influence,” the Iranian parliamentarian said.

Yahyavi said that “the Islamic Republic’s political stability is also another reason behind the countries’ willingness to expand their relationship with Iran.”

The Iranian official further criticized hostile US policies towards the Islamic Republic, saying, “Despite the international rules and regulations that call for respect towards other countries’ independence and sovereignty, we see that Washington earmarks budgets for disturbing Iran’s stability.”

“But despite all US atrocious attempts, the Islamic Republic is getting more and more powerful,” the Iranian lawmaker said.

Iran and Switzerland have recently signed a major agreement for Iranian gas exports to a Swiss company.

The deal is in full compliance with UN Security Council sanctions resolutions imposed against Iran for refusing to give up its right of uranium enrichment as demanded by the West.

Iran stresses it is entitled to the atomic right as enshrined in the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), to which Iran is a signatory.
