Serbia to host regional conference on border security co-op

Serbia will host the sixth ministerial conference on border security cooperation in Southeast Europe this week, the Balkan country’s authorities said on Monday.

The interior ministers of Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and three EU member states — Italy, Slovenia and the Czech Republic — would discuss the realization of key goals determined under the Ministerial Declaration of 2006 on March 5-6, the Serbian Interior Ministry said in a statement.

The statement said that the delegations would present reports on the achieved results in the field of integrated border management in 2008 and discuss the implementation of strategies in the 2009-2011 period.

It said that the interior ministers of Serbia, Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Macedonia and Montenegro will sign the ministerial declaration, bilateral agreements and the annual plan for 2009 on March 6.

The conference is organized by the Serbian Interior Ministry and the Geneva Center for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces.
