Bulgarian PM: Energy minister about new gas crisis “There is no reason to panic in next weeks”

SOFIA.

There is no reason for panic and concern over the next weeks, Economy and Energy Minister Petar Mutafchiev said in reference to the risks for new gas crisis.

There are more than 500 mln m3 of gas in Chiren gas depot. We can supply the country with 4 mln m3 of gas. Thus we will cover the consumption at 100%, the minister remarked.

We have made agreements on natural gas deliveries with Greece and Turkey, Dimitrov said. People must be calm during the hot months, he pointed.
If the gas supply is cut for a long time, Bulgaria will face difficulties but we do not expect this to happen. European Commission’s thinks there is no reason for Ukraine not to pay its debt to Russia, Dimitrov remarked.

On June 3, Russian Ambassador to Bulgaria have sent a letter, citing statement of Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. The letter informs Ukraine will not be able to pay its debt to Russia on June 7, which can cause new gas crisis.
