Verdict against former Egyptian PM to be presented on 30 September

The Dokki Misdemeanor Appeals Court will rule on 30 September on an appeal by former Prime Minister Hesham Qandil against an earlier verdict that sentenced him to one year and stripped him of his ministerial post.

Qandil had received the sentence in April from a first instance court for failure to implement a ruling that reversed the privatization of the Nile Cotton Ginning Company.

Qandil was not present at courtroom on Wednesday despite a subpoena from the court ordering him to attend.

His defense lawyers conceded that the verdict against the former PM should not be accepted since the ruling won by the company workers is still facing an appeal at the State Council’s Supreme Administrative Court. They added that an advisory report by commissioners at the administrative court recommended turning down the ruling made for the favor of the company.
